Kunshan, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Suzhou, is one of the city groups in the Yangtze River Delta, one of the top 100 counties and county-level cities in the country in terms of achievements in new urbanization, and ranks among the top in the country in terms of comprehensive economic strength. Kunshan is strategically located between Suzhou and Shanghai, conveniently connected with Changshu and Taicang, and has traditionally been dubbed one of Shanghai’s satellite towns.
Kunshan plays an important role in the region’s logistics and distribution industries. A center for manufacturing of high-technology products, such as computers and digital cameras, Kunshan sits astride three important land-based transportation lines: the Beijing-Nanjing-Shanghai railway, the G312 national highway and the Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway. The region’s many canals and rivers allow cargo transport by water from warehouses to the Port of Shanghai, 40 miles away.
In 2021, improvements in agglomeration of the leading industries was seen in Kunshan, with the output figures of the electronic information and equipment manufacturing industries surpassing 560 billion yuan and 280 billion yuan respectively. A host of leading projects, such as CANCON and SANY intelligent equipment manufacturing, have been launched in quick succession. Going forward, Kunshan will endeavor to deliver two 500-billion-yuan-level leading industries in information technology and high-end equipment, and the settlement of manufacturing enterprises will catalyze increasing demand for warehousing and logistics.
